Everest Region

Helicopter to Kala Patthar for sunrise over Everest, a champagne breakfast at altitude, and lodge-based trekking through Sherpa country.

The Everest region is the trip people dream about for years, and it can be done far more comfortably than most travelers realize. Lodges in the Khumbu have come a long way, and a well-paced itinerary gives you the mountains without the suffering.

The highlight for many is the helicopter morning: an early flight up the valley, past Ama Dablam and Nuptse, landing near Kala Patthar for a face-to-face view of Everest — then a champagne breakfast with the whole Khumbu spread out beneath you. It's the single most spectacular hour I can put on an itinerary.

Around that, we build in acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar, monastery visits in Tengboche, tea with Sherpa families, and as much or as little walking as you want. Trek the classic route, do a shorter luxury lodge loop, or skip the walking entirely and do it all by helicopter.
